Static vs. dynamic websites

July 4th, 2008

Static websites as the name implies display static content, content that does not change.
Dynamic websites however can display different content upon user interaction, think for example of an ecommerce online shopping cart system where the items in your shopping basket differ from someone else’s shopping cart. Dynamic websites, such as a content management system (CMS) are far more complex in architecture than static websites. Dynamic websites are typically database driven; information is being stored in a database then later retrieved for display.
